Hillside walk, 17 June 2019
Apart from the first day or two, it's been another cool week, with the result that flowers on the hillside continue to be grand for this time of year. Most obvious in the landscape are the chaparral yuccas (Hesperoyucca whipplei); from the mid north hillside I counted 25 when looking towards the west.
The major notable of the week is the California primrose (Eulobus californicus), even greater in number than last week, and evident in multiple places from the lower north hillside to the very top of the north hillside.
With the cool weather, we even have a good number of four o'clock blooms (Mirabilis laevis var. crassifolia) in numerous locations.
Of course, the heartleaf penstemon (Keckiella cordifolia) along upper Lida Street is now at its absolute peak of bloom.
There is so much to see at this time. One absence this week is the strigose lotus. Until last week, it was in bloom constantly since the last week of February.
