Hillside walk, 29 October 2018

Today produced a real surprise. The deerweed (Acmispon glaber var. glaber) has long since completed its blooming. The plants are widespread and look like skeletons. However, on the upper north hillside today, one plant had flowers, just two of them near the end of one its many dark green stems. That's something I wasn't expecting.

The California sagebrush (Artemisia californica) is now blooming in many places. I'm classifying it as being in full flower because the blooms are widespread, not because they are prolific. It may be that this is the beginning of a rolling wave of bloom for this species.
