Hillside walk, 17 September 2018

The flower count remains at its low level, the same as last week, which is not surprising. However, there was one “new” flower this week, the male mulefat (Baccharis salicifolia) within the Lida Street horseshoe bend.

The only plant continuing to bloom profusely is the narrow leaved milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis), on the upper north hillside. In Canyon 8, California brickellbush (Brickellia californica) continues its blooming although it doesn't look enthusiastic about flowering. The saw toothed goldenbush (Hazardia squarrosa) on the mid north hillside, which was so nicely in bloom a couple of weeks ago, now has very few flowers.

With the hillside so dry, it's notable that on the second half of my hillside walk, between Canyon 6 and the top of Lida Street, which is most of the west hillside, there is not a single flower to be seen.
