Hillside walk, 19 February 2018

The flowering species observed are the same ones as last week. At the same time, there are some seasonal developments. Most impressive is that the hoaryleaf ceanothus (Ceanothus crassifolius var. planus) is now flowering in all of its locations on the hillside. A particularly impressive tree, covered in blossom, is located on the high par of the Lida Street horseshoe bend.

The fuchsia-flowered gooseberry (Ribes speciosum) is now flowering luxuriously in all of its locations.

The sawtooth goldenbush (Hazardia squarrosa) has had a long blooming season and now appears to be essentially finished. Of the many plants on the mid north hillside, I found only a single flower. In Canyon 5, the chaparral currant (Ribes malvaceum) is another species that is about finished its blooming.
