Hillside walk, 06 March 2017
Many more flowers are appearing, so that the hillsides are coming to life with flowers, even though the display is subdued because of the prolific winter grasses.
On the lower north hillside a surprise today was three lupine plants in full bloom, which look very much like they are Coulter's lupine (Lupinus sparsiflorus). Far above on the upper north hillside is a blooming specimen of stinging lupine (Lupinus hirsutissimus). Mysteriously, no miniature lupine (Lupine bicolor) is apparent on the lower north hillside, where it has been evident in other years, although green leaves are present in masses along the sidewalk of Lida Street.
