Hillside walk, 28 July 2016
California mugwort (Artemisia douglasiana) is most obvious as a large clump of plants at the bottom of the north hillside, in the lower part of Canyon 8. It should be coming into bloom within the next few weeks, but instead most of the leaves are dying. I see no buds forming. Looks like a lean season this year.
Many other plants look stressed, too.
How amazing that the branching phacelia (Phacelia ramosissima) continues to bloom — on the few stems that are still alive.
What a surprise on the Lida Street berm to find the non-native prickly lettuce (Lactuca serriola) in full bloom.
