Hillside walk, 22 March 2014
The greening of the hillside continues. Popcorn flowers are staring to appear in significant numbers, like they should. I counted 204 flowers of strigose lotus (Acmispon stigosus), which compares with 78 last week. The first coffeeberry flowers (Frangula californica) are appearing.
Meanwhile the liverwort continues to fade away.
The big discovery of the day, on the dry, open hillside above the upper part of Lida Street, was one plant of death camas (Toxicoscordion sp.), which I've not seen previously on the hillside. It was nicely in bloom. Based on descriptions, I've not so far been able to identify it to the species level.
