This old tank, about 3-feet in diameter, lies immediately behind the houses and in the bed of the lower part of Canyon 8. It's unclear whether it was part of the water system associated with the concrete tank further up in the canyon. But in this semi-arid climate, perhaps it does date back to the late 19th century. The row of old sandbags visible in this photo was part of the flood mitigation work following the hillside fire of August 1986, which resulted in major mud/sand runoff during the subsequent winter rains.
