Hillside walk, 03 April 2017

The hillsides have just so many flowers at present, despite being so overrun by grass. Today saw the first seasonal blooms of chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum var. fasciculatum), morning glory (Calystegia sp.), California chicory (Rafinesquia californica), and California primrose (Eulobus californicus). The latter species is actually widespread on the lower north hillside, but has very few flowers because the stems are eaten by the deer, who appear to see out this particular plant.
