Hillside walk, 10 July 2016

This is the seventh week of blooming for the chaparral yucca (Hesperoyucca whipplei). For the past few weeks the number has declined significantly; but today it was a joy to find one in almost full bloom close to the walking route on the north hillside.

This week produced another big drop in the number of native plants in bloom. Last year was very different. Whereas this year we've had no rain since early March, last year we had some rain almost every month. That small amount of rain makes a huge difference.
